Welcome to the twenty-sixth episode of The Gap Minders! Today, we are so fortunate to be able to speak with the incredible Peter Callstrom, who is the CEO of the San Diego Workforce Partnership!
Listen to “Episode 26 | Peter Callstrom, CEO, San Diego Workforce Partnership” on Spreaker. In this important episode, Nancy and Jose are joined in studio by one of San Diego’s true leaders, Peter Callstrom, the CEO of the San Diego Workforce Partnership, an organization which lives and breathes the world of work and the world of opportunities on a daily basis. We learn of the interesting arc of Peter’s life from his early readings of Steinback classics to his lifelong work dedicated to “human services” as he calls it. Nice turn of a phrase, we’d say!
And how does he serve humans? With intentional and impactful programs, partnerships and community collaborations to close gaps and provide the tools, resources, and encouragement his fellow humans need to live a great life. Well done, we’d say, as Peter and his team are laser focused on not just the here and now but also dwell in the future to determine where we’re going together.
And what is particularly on the laser focus list right now? Early education to help schools build an immersive, experiential, career pathway mindset from the get go for young students. Sounds like a smart strategy.
Here are some other amazing takeaways from the interview with Peter:
- Behavioral health careers are a red-light issue right now due to demand for services
- A $100 million front-end investment might be in order to jump start a program to train
behavioral health professionals for San Diego - We are facing an opportunity youth crisis right now, with youth disconnection a major
issue - The answers to the Rapid Fire questions!
A truly great conversation from a wonderful gap minder. Thank you, Peter Callstrom, for being passionate about gaps, your passion for humans, and for joining us for an episode of The Gap Minders!
